To begin with I would like to introduce myself and share a little background information with you. My name is Ashley Saunders. I was born and raised in Newport News and have lived here my entire life. I received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in teaching with a concentration in elementary education, both from Christopher Newport University. I am incredibly excited to begin my journey as a teacher with you and your students. In my spare time, I love to read, go to the beach, and spend time with my family. My feelings about education are that it is a lifelong process and a journey. It is a teacher’s responsibility to guide children in their educational journey and instill within them a love of learning. I feel that a teacher must strive to reach the needs and interests of each student that he or she encounters. I also feel that it is incredibly important for a student’s family to be actively involved in their education. As a parent or family member, you can do this by maintaining frequent contact with me, assist your student with homework, and frequently show interest in what your student is learning. Other than parent-teacher conferences, email and phone contact, I sometimes may also send home notes in agendas to be signed.
